Energy modernization of the Margaretenau cooperative residential quarter in Regensburg

Sub Project: Development of micro hollow glass sphere based building material for energetic refurbishment of buildings

In the MAGGIE project, exemplary solutions for energy-optimized living are to be developed for the cooperative historic urban district of Margaretenau in Regensburg. To achieve this goal, innovative wall structures made of solar-active building materials and a prediction-based supply technology are being used.

An existing residential building serves here as a demonstration and test object in which a novel, particularly efficient hybrid system of heat pump technology and combined heat and power (CHP) is used. A solar-active and solar-adaptive exterior rendering system is being developed in collaboration with the OTH Regensburg for the modernization of historic facades in line with the requirements of a listed building. Due to its expected properties, this system represents a revolutionary innovation according to the current state of building technology and building physics. It is used instead of a composite thermal insulation system on the building. The increased utilization of solar gains in conjunction with improved thermal comfort inside the building thanks to new types of interior plaster and interior paint systems make a significant contribution to saving heating energy. The physical and thermal properties are verified by empirical tests on a wall test rig and by means of physical models and simulations.
