RIA - Regional Innovation Architecture for Transformative Change
The „Innovative University“ initiative was launched by the federal and state governments to promote the research-based transfer of ideas, knowledge, and technology at German universities. The University of Bayreuth will receive funding for the project „RIA – Regional Innovation Architecture for Transformative Change“ from January 1, 2023, through December 31, 2027. Under the leadership of the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (IEI), a regional innovation architecture is being established in collaboration with regional partners from business and civil society, with the aim of accelerating the implementation of technological, social, and environmental innovation. It provides access to cutting-edge research at the university and strengthens the innovative capacity of the regional economy.
The targeted research-based transfer takes place in university labs such as the Keylab Glass Technology. The Keylab Glass Technology develops new processes for the production and processing of glass and glass-based products. The Keylab Glass Technology conducts research in close collaboration with the Spiegelau Technology Application Center (TAZ), which is jointly managed by the University of Bayreuth and the Deggendorf Institute of Technology. Companies from the regional and international glass industry are integrated into the Keylab Glass Technology’s research.
The goal of the Keylab Glass Technology is to identify current and future technological, operational, and materials science challenges in the glass industry and to drive the development of innovative solutions. Through workshops and networking events with the regional glass industry and academia, technology transfer needs in the areas of new technologies, trends, production techniques, and new glass-based products are identified and translated into technology projects in collaboration with partners in the RIA innovation ecosystem.
Other university research institutions involved in RIA include:
- Digital Technologies Lab (DTL)
- Game Innovation Lab (GIL)
- Keylab Additive Innovationen
- New Materials Lab
- Future Energy Lab
- Food Lab Kulmbach
